Dried cubes of natural ginger root, cured and coated in sugar, crystallised ginger has many uses. 

It can be eaten as a nibble on its own, or added to cakes and bakes, and is especially delicious in a home made ginger cake, or covered in dark melted chocolate and left to cool and harden. 

Use it on a journey if you or your little ones get a little queasy. Ginger apparently settles the stomach.
